Itinerary

We’ll pick you up at 5:00 a.m. from your accomadation to begin our countryside adventure and bring you to the town of “Upis” in our own vehicle for three hours. “Upis” is located in the center of the Cusco highlands and provides breathtaking views of the horizon. When we arrive in the little town, we’ll present you to the rest of your hiking crew, including the cooks and horsemen. We’ll next begin our journey by climbing up a broad, rising trail to the northeast face of the spectacular “Ausangate” mountain. After a three-hour walk through farming fields and magnificent traditional cottages, we will arrive at Upis camp, where we will have lunch. Later in the afternoon, we’ll have the option of walking the two-hour round trek to Wayna Ausangate Lake. Happy hour (tea time) will be ready when you return, followed by supper. We’ll camp surrounded by Ausangate’s holy mountains, which will watch over you as you sleep.

Today, we’ll wake you up in your tent with a hot herbal tea made from coca leaves or coffee to give you the energy you need to get moving. Then, amid the cold of the high mountains, we’ll enjoy a great breakfast that will keep you warm. Today, we’ll start our two-and-a-half-hour hike through a lovely high Andean valley toward the Arapa pass, with the majestic Ausangate glacier as a constant companion. The splendor of the scenery will be magnified from the top of the opening (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), and you will be amazed by Mother Nature’s massive works. You’ll see the vastness of the mountain range and, if you’re lucky, the majestic flight of the condor, the world’s largest flying bird. Our guide will also provide further information about the magnificent local flora and animals. Next, we will descend to find the wonderful crystal clear Yanacocha Lagoon (black lagoon); then, we will continue on the route for another hour until we reach Hatun Pucacocha to enjoy the spectacular view. Make sure you have your camera handy during the day so you may capture some amazing photographs to remember your exciting voyage. At this moment, we shall enjoy a fantastic meal. Then we’ll arrive at our campground, Hatun Pukaqocha (4,500 m/14,764 ft). Later, we’ll explore the nearby lagoons and unwind with some excellent mate. In the evening, a nutritious supper will be ready for you, and you may talk about the day’s hike with your other tourists and the crew. After that, you’ll travel to your campground for a peaceful night.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll go uphill for 2 hours to “Puka pass” (4,870 m). Along the route this morning, you’ll be amazed by the stunning views of the glaciers and deep green valleys. Feel the impressive presence of the “Apu Ausangate” and take photos of its beautiful turquoise lagoons. When you reach the summit, you will see the huge face of the Apu Ausangate directly in front of you. You’ll feel the incredible energy it exudes and understand why it means so much to the people of the Andes. You will also see the expansive grandeur of the Chilca Valley, where llamas and alpacas will be roaming and grazing calmly. From this aperture, you can see the beginning of the Rainbow Mountain range. which has remarkable color stripes. After capturing some more photos, we’ll begin a gentle descent for an hour and a half to our lunch destination in Anantapata (4,750 m). After we’ve satisfied our hunger, we’ll take a little break to rest and relax before starting our two-hour journey to the Warmisaya (4,985 meters). From there, you’ll feel like a bird flying across the mountains, able to see the grandeur of the horizon. We simply have to descend for an hour to Surineqocha lagoon, where our overnight camp will be waiting for you. You’ll be able to see the amazing sunset behind Rainbow Mountain, which will provide you with calm and a lovely sense of inner peace. After another delicious supper, it will be time to retire.

After a delicious breakfast at 4:00 a.m., we’ll head over to Rainbow Mountain to ponder the multicolored valley illuminated by the golden light of morning. You will have an hour to explore this wonderland before the massive hordes arrive. Our experienced tour will lead you directly to the most important locations so you can get the greatest photos and make the most of your time on this stunning site. Your guide will explain in detail why this mountain has such distinctive hues and how it was just “discovered” in recent years. It’s one of South America’s most breathtaking locations, as well as one of Peru’s most popular natural attractions. After experiencing this treasure of the Peruvian Andes, we’ll set out for the breathtaking Red Valley. You’ll be astounded not just by its breathtaking beauty, but also by the tremendous tranquillity that will envelope you. Take a deep breath and experience the thrill of being alive.

It takes approximately 45 minutes to walk to the lookout, which offers the greatest views of the valley Finally, we will descend for two hours via historic Andean towns and llama herds.
