Itinerary
We begin our adventure early in the morning in Cusco. We will pick you up from your hotel around 6:00 a.m. Then, we will drive through the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing the indigenous town of Chinchero, with stunning views of the Vilcabamba and Vilcanota mountain ranges, as well as panoramic landscapes of small Andean villages.
After about two hours on the road, we will stop in the Inca town of Ollantaytambo to stretch our legs and use the restroom. We will then continue driving to Abra Málaga Pass, located at 4,350 meters above sea level. From here, we will begin our biking descent to the town of Santa María, at 1,430 meters above sea level.
At Abra Málaga, you will receive all the biking equipment as well as a safety briefing and training session to ensure a successful ride down to Santa María.
The biking route, approximately 40 km, begins high in the Andes with magnificent views of the Veronica snow-capped mountain. We will descend by bike from Abra Málaga to the village of Huamanmarca.
Afterward, we will return to the vehicle and continue to Santa María for lunch. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a rafting adventure. Once the rafting activity is over, we will take the vehicle again and head to the Cocalmayo hot springs in the town of Santa Teresa.
Upon arrival in Santa Teresa, you will be transferred to your accommodation. In the evening, dinner will be served at a local restaurant in town.
You will wake up at around 6:30 a.m. and then enjoy breakfast. At approximately 8:00 a.m., the zip-line company will pick you up and take you to their base, where you will receive all the necessary information and instructions for the activity.
The zip-line experience lasts about 2 hours and includes four different cables and a hanging bridge. Afterward, you will take a one-hour drive to Hydroelectric for lunch.
After lunch, you will hike for about 3 hours along the railway tracks to the town of Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, we will transfer you to your hotel.
At around 7:00 p.m., you will have dinner at a local restaurant and then rest for the night. The next day, you will wake up early to visit Machu Picchu.
On the final day of the tour, you will visit Machu Picchu. You will need to wake up at around 4:00 a.m. to get ready for the hike to the main entrance of Machu Picchu.
After picking up your breakfast, you will begin a 30-minute walk to the Puente Ruinas checkpoint, which opens at 5:00 a.m. There, you will need to show your passport and your Machu Picchu entrance ticket.
After passing the first checkpoint, you will hike up the stairs for about one hour until you reach the main gate of Machu Picchu at around 6:00 a.m.
Once the group is together at the entrance, you will enter Machu Picchu for a 2-hour guided tour, where you will learn all about the Lost City of the Incas.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. The amount of time you spend at the citadel will depend on the return option you have booked, as well as whether you plan to hike Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, which must be reserved in advance.
After your visit to Machu Picchu, your return to Cusco will depend on the option you have selected.
Return by bus
You must be at Hydroelectric by 2:00 p.m. This requires about a 2-hour walk from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes, and then you will take the bus back to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco is expected at around 10:00 p.m.
Return by train
You will take the train back to Ollantaytambo, which takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. From there, you will continue by bus to Cusco, arriving in about 2 more hours.
If your booking includes the Machu Picchu ticket, you may choose between the two available train schedules.
If your booking does not include the Machu Picchu ticket, you may choose the train option for $90. You can purchase it when buying your Machu Picchu entrance ticket in Machu Picchu Pueblo. Train schedules depend on price and availability.

EXCELENTE A base de 12 reseñas Publicado en Tripadvisor kieranlthompsonVerificada Top Salkantay & Machu Pichu Trip We organised our trip with the company before arriving in Cusco. Vidal was our guide and he offered a fun and insightful Salkantay Trek. We had great food on the trip for each meal. It was obvious that Vidal would have gone out of his way to adapt the trip to any of our needs ! We were advised by Vidal that we could buy tickets for Machu Pichu when we arrived in Aguas Caliantes the afternoon before our desired date. This was great advice as the tourist offices release 1000 tickets each day in person and we were able to get Circuit 2 tickets. I had the company recommended to me by a friend who went on the trek last year. Id pass on the recommendation to anyone else who wishes to do the Salkantay trek. Cheers !Publicado en Tripadvisor Eilis MVerificada Amazing experience from start to finish! We booked the 5 day Salkantay trek via Vidal thanks to our friend that has done it the month prior. Vidal was incredibly helpful and friendly, explained everything and even met us at our hotel for the briefing the day before and popped by to collect the bags and see how we got on once we arrived back from Machu Picchu. Our guide on the trek was Oscar and he was fantastic, very knowledgeable and had funny. Kept us entertained and motivated on rainy and hard days. Best hike I’ve done and was all made easy thanks to Vidal and Oscar.Publicado en Tripadvisor AtticusVerificada Best 4 days of my trip Wow what a 4 days! Vidal is an excellent tour guide, especially well suited for young and active groups. He is funny, keeps the atmosphere relaxed, and at the same time explains the history of the Inca in a clear and engaging way. You can really tell that he has a lot of experience and knows how to motivate and lead a group. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have an unforgettable experience on the Salkantay Trek.🥾 Ps: Don’t underestimate the power of the pisco at the hot springs🤪 Moritz&Felix🇦🇹Publicado en Tripadvisor Dominik LVerificada ⛰️🏞 We went with a group of 4 friends.
